Project Maashorst
PRESENTATION – EXHIBITION AT GALLERY ATELIER ANDERS, OCTOBER 2019
This project was about finding earth pigments in nature park ‘De Maashorst’ in the Netherlands.
It all started with Lia Verstegen, the owner of gallery Atelier Anders, who asked me if I wanted to create artwork with ‘De Maashorst’ as inspiration/subject.
The Netherlands is not known for many earth tones so I thought it would be exciting (maybe even a bit scary since there was a chance I wouldn’t find anything). First I started to do more research into ‘De Maashorst’ itself. I soon discovered that the Peelrand fault (earth fractures) runs through the area. Because of the Peelrand fault there is a lot of iron in the water which results in beautiful orange and red colors!
You can find information and images of every single pigment down below. [If you want to know how I make my earth pigments click here .]
Lia made a video of my project, it’s in dutch. For video click here.
